I’ve practiced primary care for 23 years and “hit the wall” as many physicians do at this phase of their career; tired of regulations, pre-certifications (on almost everything including medications), meaningful use, etc. I felt as if I lost the passion for practicing medicine. The practice of medicine feels as if we simply collect data for insurance companies and hospitals to generate revenue. These regulations place huge burdens on individual practitioners in order to achieve “quality” but mostly as I’ve said are data collection tools.
It is as if I am on a treadmill that is going fast and faster with so much of my daily time spent on tasks that have little value to my individual patients.
Having always wanted to try to do the right thing for my patients I find myself faced with having to choose between taking care of the patients who have been with me for decades or blowing up my practice and going to a conceirge model. I can’t bring myself to desert the patients that have made me successful. So I am on a mission to find a better way to deliver healthcare and in particular Primary Care.
My goal is to RESTORE the physician patient relationship to one of trust and communication based on managing care 24/7 and getting away from the transactional fee for service model.
My next blog will contain my ideas on how this can be accomplished. Feel free and subscribe to receive my future postings.
To your health,
Dr. John Farley

Hi Lana,

As a 40 chronically ill, homebound pt( i have acute intermittant porphyria, dystautonomia and 18 other diagnosis) who required intense care. i witness this as a pt watching my dr deal with this frustration. I have been sick for 24yrs and it blows my mind. It has became political, making it difficult for the dr to actually work for the paitent. Thank you for taking time to invest in your pts. I look forward to reading your future post. P.s i am kin to papa mose. I have heard so many great things about you from He, and Granny Lena. Blessings in your journey
